Purpose
This position is responsible for managing the Business Operations of the design department under the guidance of the Creative Director This position assures that the operational and finance and team development requirements to run the global design department are met This individual works closely with our footwear apparel graphics and technical design team but this individual is not responsible for creative output themselves

Key Accountabilities

Business Strategy
* Function as a primary strategic consultant for the Creative Director in all projects related to the operations of the US Design Department
* Serve as liaison with creation centers across North America Sports Licensing Division- Boston & Indianapolis Agron – LACA Manages Licensee and Design Centers’ Approvals and Process—foster strong partnership between all US Creation Centers
* Following creative direction provided by USA design VP enabling creativity with Kickoffs Creative Series and Design Inspiration Concepts eg develop plan for offsite with cross functional teams
* Assist the Creative Director in developing and executing plans to support business and department goals
* Define strategy organizational structure and consolidation plans of for US and SLD and execute these plans in partnership with Human Resources and Finance
* Function as a business advisor to the senior design management
* Spearhead non-creative aspects of all key collaborations
* Serve as point person for deadlines & handoffs Responsible for exportation of design from the department to cross functional teams to ensure consistency on output of design
Financial Oversight and Management
* Manage monitor and project US design budgets
* US Design budgets travel expenses and Design Centers budgets
* Monitor and plan budget expenditures strategically so that operational needs are met but money is spent prudently by the department
* Project financial needs for US Design Center
* Manage actual vs planned expenditures to determine how to re-allocate budget surplusdeficits on a monthly basis
Human Resources Liaison
* Partner with the Creative Director Human Resources and the senior design management team to manage the staffing development and retention of approximately 70 design associates
* Provide recommendations for salaryrelocation offers for all new hires in partnership with HR
* Develop and execute training opportunities for the design department in partnership with HR and Organizational Development
* Foster & develop a creative team-based design community ensure high engagement and a strong design culture
* Assist senior design managers with restructuring proposals to ensure that organizational structures support department business goals
* Partner with HR on developing a Talent Management process
* Develop and manage a comprehensive InternshipApprenticeship program for the Design Department
* Ensure an effective on boarding for all new hires to the department
* Provide professional development opportunities including a senior management speaker series portfolio reviews and mock interviews
Department Operations
* Plan and own execution of all Design milestone meetings Design Reviews Guest Speakers etc
* Workload Assessment and management across footwear apparel and graphics
* Function as the Design Calendar Champion and define all seasonal product calendars and timelines for the department
* Define all new technology requirements hardware & software and implement new applications or systems for Global Design across four design centers DMT Adobe Plugin Adobe upgrades PLM enhancements Stylesight global implementation etc
* Define and execute all business process improvements for Design including workload analysis and redefinition of existing and new processes
* Manage the Administrative Ops staff to ensure that they are servicing the needs of the US design staff
Qualifications
* Bachelors in business MBA preferred
* 10 years experience in the apparel footwear marketing industry working with creatives
* Ability to manage large projects complex organizational structures and large groups of people direct or matrix management responsibilities
* Experience managing teams and direct reports
