Purpose
Execute design direction for the brand through material selection and material design Establishe with collaboration the material direction for categories maintain and nurture the designmaterial direction through communication with the Design team Development Materials Team Marketing and the Athlete Drive material innovation for categories and horizontal concepts in conjunction with AIT and the Materials Team
Job Profile
* Coordinate with Design Directors Category Designers and Senior Designers from each Apparel category and AiT in collecting input to create a materials direction and future initiatives both in the direction of adding materials to the current portfolio to support the business and phasing others out to maintain innovation and control complexity levels in line with the adidas Sports Performance Design Direction and objectives And to understand in depth the category directions and specific needs in regards to materials
* The Point person in Design for materials design and direction to Communicate said direction and initiatives within and outside the Design department and drive and verify their execution leveraging existing processes and defining new ones where needed
* Design both commercial and innovative fabrics surface structures and weaves respecting relevant commercial realities
* In coordination and mutual support with the Materials Team scout the existing and potential source base through supplier and tradeshow visits for new materials and to design fabrics to meet and enhance each category’s direction This may involve travel with the Materials Team to factories tradeshows and the market place to gather materials and trend information and report findings to cross-functional teams
* Select materials for seasonal trend presentations and supply seasonal materials trend input working in co ordination with the Trend & Color team
* Identify and resolve in collaboration with senior Designers the Materials Team Development and Marketing cross category issues that relate to materials and communicate potential issues
* Own and track project status by partnering with the Materials Team Development Marketing and Design Follow through to the end of the project troubleshooting and facilitating as needed Archive successful fabrics within the Sports Performance Division
* Meet with athletes to research material optionsdesigns in order to enhance athlete performance
* Define and update - in collaboration with Design Directors Product Marketing and Brand Operations - an ideal complexity level that optimize the trade-offs between differentiation innovation economies of scale and process costs
* Create and maintain - in collaboration with Product Marketing and Brand Operations - defined tolerance levels for alternative substitutions to be executed by Development to optimize materials toolboxes
Your Profile
* Preferably a BSc or MSc in Textiles Textile Design or Textile Management or Bachelor degree BA in similar fields from four-year college or university
* Minimum of 5 years related experience and or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
* Extensive industry knowledge with a focus on performance fabrics and sustainable fabrics and manufacturing
* Strong influence and collaboration skills as well as strong communication and organisation skills
* Expert in apparel construction and material development process
* Ability to work independently with little direction or supervision and independently manage projects
